APARTMENT BALCONY MAKEOVER
For those of you who live in an apartment, you know what how important your balcony can be. The goal is always to make it into your own little outdoor oasis.
In this post, I’ll be sharing how I gave our apartment balcony a makeover with a little DIY project and the perfect accessory finds.
While I did impletement these ideas on our balcony, they can be implemented into any outdoor space such as a patio, deck, etc.
Composite Deck Tiles
I always say that flooring and paint make the biggest difference in any space and this balcony was no exception.
The unfinished wood on the balcony was kinda an eye sore and I knew that it had to go. Ideally, I would have loved to stain it however that wasn’t an option.
While searching for an alternative solution I stumbled upon NewTechWood Composite Deck Tiles. They were super easy to install and made all the difference.

Outdoor Furniture
The biggest thing for me when searching for furniture is finding quality pieces that won’t break the bank. Let’s just say I absolutely scored on Amazon with the pieces I found for the balcony!
These IDZO Premium Club Chairs came in a set of two for the price of what most retailers would sell for one! They were super easy to assemble and I was most impressed by the quality of the cushions. Oftentimes the cushions are a dead giveaway of how much you spent, but these are as plush and comfortable as higher-end pieces.
The Jonathon YBTBLY Patio Table was also another Amazon find. I was a bit surprised when receiving this to find that there were tiny pink speckles all over the table (not visible on the listing photo). However, once everything is put together they are hardly noticeable but it is something to keep in mind.
Decorative accessories
Rug
Whether it be an outdoor or an indoor space, a rug is a must to anchor down an area and bring it together. I wanted something neutral that would transition nicely with every season. Loloi is my go-to when it comes to rugs, so when I saw the Malibu Collection, it was a no-brainer that this was the one.
Planters
I searched high and low for planters that would match the look that I was going for, but had no luck. Like most things, when I can’t find what I’m looking for a DIY project is bound to happen- and that’s exactly what I did. I ordered a set of plain black box planters off of Amazon and layered them with a various array of neutral acrylic paints I found at Hobby Lobby.
To ensure that the planters were securely in place, I did use these zip ties to attach the planter hooks onto the railing.
Greenery
My original plan was to place real flowers in the planters, but after a failed attempt of keeping them alive I opted for what I know best – faux.
I found these realistic greenery stems at Hobby Lobby and placed them in both box planters with rocks to weigh them down.
Since I had the room I opted to add a faux olive tree as well. While I’m still looking for a base planter to place it in, it still adds a nice touch to the space as is.
Lighting
To finish off the space I weaved string lights between all the railings. They come in a variety of colors and lengths and they’re also weather-proof making them ideal for outdoor use.
It didn’t take much to transform our balcony into a cozy little outdoor space. All of the items have held up great with the weather and I cannot wait to continue to enjoy the view from our balcony throughout the cooler months ahead.
