Budget-Friendly Half Bathroom Renovation Ideas

Have you ever seen a bathroom transformation that has blown you away? You think to yourself- there’s no way that’s even the same room!  What you may not be aware of is how attainable and affordable it can be to spruce up your own bathroom.

In this post I’ll be sharing budget-friendly ideas that you can do to renovate your half bathroom. These ideas are all pretty simple so no matter your DIY skill level you’ll be able to tackle on your bathroom in no time!

Half Bath Before and After

Add an Accent wall

Accent walls can have the biggest impact when transforming a room. They are also pretty cost effective, especially if you are working in a small area such as a bathroom. Down below I have listed some of the most popular ideas for accent walls.

Shiplap: Wooden boards placed adjacent to each other to create a siding effect. This can be done either horizontally or vertically.

Now this is probably the pricier option of the 3 if you decide to purchase nickel-gap shiplap. A single panel that is 6 inches wide and 8ft tall can cost around $10. However, there are lower-price alternative materials you can use such as MDF boards or plywood. You can also consider just placing the shiplap on the lower half of your wall to cut back on the cost.

If you are unfamiliar with installing shiplap head on over to my “How to Create a DIY Shiplap Wall in 8 Easy Steps” post.

Wallpaper: Paper placed over drywall to create a patterned or textured look.

You can definitely get creative with using wallpaper as there are endless possibilities when it comes to colors and patterns that are available. You can even combine using wallpaper (top half of wall) with either shiplap or board and batten (bottom half of wall) for an even bigger statement.

Peel and stick wallpaper is an ideal option for renters in particular as it can easily be placed on your walls and taken down with little to no damage at all!

Board and Batten: Variation of thin and wide moulding strips placed vertically to create a pattern of interest.

The great thing about this option is that it can be completely customizable! You can choose the width of your moulding as well as how far you want the spacing to be in between. Similarly to shiplap you can either choose to carry this pattern throughout the entire wall or just on the lower half if you prefer.

Typically I wouldn’t recommend doing an accent wall in a bathroom, secondary to the fact that the steam from your shower can damage the wood/paper over time. However, since we are focusing on half bathrooms this isn’t much of a concern.

Update Your Vanity

Updating your vanity is another way to easily give your bathroom a brand new look. If your vanity is already in good condition there’s no need to replace it. A fresh coat of paint and perhaps a new color can do wonders to transform it. While painting cabinets may sound intimidating, it’s actually pretty easy! Be on the lookout for post on this topic in the near future.

Consider replacing the hardware on your vanity if you want to take it up a notch. Amazon is a great place to look for inexpensive hardware without sacrificing quality. If replacing hardware isn’t in your budget you can always spray paint your current knobs/pulls for an updated look.

Changing out your faucet can also make a bigger impact than you think. More traditionally homes tend to have nickel/chrome finish faucets. If you are aiming for something different, look into switching those out for a black or antique gold finish.

Replace Old Fixtures

Do not overlook small details when revamping a space. Often times it’s usually the small details that make the greatest impact to pull the room in together.

Light fixtures are one of the things that are most commonly replaced when updating any room. While you will obviously spend money on replacing the fixture, you do not need to spend money on hiring someone to install it for you. Switching it out is something that you can tackle on yourself. There are plenty of Youtbe video tutorials that can walk you through process. Don’t be afraid to go for it!

Items such as old and bulky hand towel rings or toilet paper holders can be updated with more sleek and modern pieces. As previously mentioned you can find such items on Amazon for an unbeatable price.

Wether you choose to incorporate a few or all of these ideas into your bathroom, it is bound to turn out beautifully without breaking the bank. Feel free to tag @ourblissfulnest on your Instagram posts or send me a picture via DM or email. I would love to see your transformations!
