Small Pantry Organization

If you happened to stumble upon this post my guess would be that the current state of your pantry is chaotic. You can’t find that jar of peanut butter that you swore was in there and you may not know it yet, but there’s probably an expired thing or two in there- no shame, we’ve all been there.

A few weeks ago I set out to redo one out of our two pantries. Being the way that I am I was determined to find storage that was not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing as well.

In this post I’ll be sharing the products that have made our small pantry into a much more functional and organized space!

1. Lazy Susans

Clear Lazy Susan
2 Pack Round Plastic Clear Rotating Turntable
Copco Bamboo Wood Lazy Susan- 10inch

Lazy Susan’s a are great to cluster likewise items together. I dedicated one to cooking oils and another one to jar items such as spreads & sauces. By grouping similar items together you can easily save a ton of space. The rotating feature also makes finding items super easy!

2. Can Organizer

iDesign Linus Fridge Bins Soda Can Organizer

So this product is actually advertised as a refrigerator organizer for soda cans, but I thought it could be used for canned food as well. This product is great especially if your pantry shelf space is on the smaller size.

Tip: Place cans with further expiration dates towards the back and keep approaching dates toward the front to avoid unnecessary potential waste of food.

3. Spice Jars/Rack

WILLDAN Set of 20- 3oz Glass Spice Jars

Now if I’m being completely honest spice jars aren’t 100% necessary, but they do create a beautiful and cohesive look. This set in specific is a steal- 20 jars PLUS labels included!

3- Tier Bamboo Expanding Spice Shelf

A spice shelf is helpful in displaying all off your spices for easy visualization and access.

Tip: You can either organize your spices alphabetically OR keep your most used spices on the front shelf for even easier access.

Don’t forget- spices expire too! Anytime you store a product in a container other than in its original packaging, it’s always a good idea to keep note of the expiration date. I used our label maker to print out expiration dates and placed them on the bottom of each jar.

4. Baskets

Threshold Woven Aseana Folio Bin
Basket
Brightroom Woven Water Hyacinth Rectangular Basket

Baskets are another great way to keep like-items together. I prefer woven baskets over plastic bins because you don’t have to worry about keeping them tidy, yet they still give an organized look from an outside perspective.

5. Canisters

Our Table Glass Canister w/ Acacia Lid
Bamboo pantry canisters
Lawei Set of 10 Glass Food Jars

If your goal is to have an aesthetically- pleasing pantry, these glass canisters are going to be your #1 in order to achieve a cohesive look!

I mixed in jars with both bamboo and açai lids for tone variation.

Now I don’t think you need these for absolutely every item in your pantry. I suggest having them only for your most used products.

6. Labels

Pantry Labels

If you decide to go with canisters for your pantry then you’ll also definitely want to add labels for product identifcaton.

If you have a cricut you could most definitely make your own labels to your liking. However, you can also purchase them elsewhere such as Etsy or Amazon

I love how this pack specifically comes with over 300 different-sized labels. While almost every pantry ingredient is already in the pack, they also include blank ones if you need to customize some.

Creating a Functional and Beautiful Space

Pantry Layout

The main purpose of a pantry is for it to be functional. While that may look a little different for everyone here’s a few things that I found helpful..

Pantry Layout

Shelf #1: Overstock/Less commonly used items

Shelf #2: Can/Jars

Shelf #3: Spices

Shelf #4: Pasta/Grains

Shelf #5: Baking ingredients

Shelf #6: Nuts/Oils

When deciding on where you want stuff to go try to keep your most commonly used items (for us it’s cans/jars, spices, pasta/grains) within eye level for easy accessibility.

Keep your less commonly used items on the top and bottom shelves (for us this included overstock, baking, and nuts)

A well-put together space

If you want to go the extra mile here are some tips on how to make your space pleasing to eye:

While all the cute jars and labels are a huge factor in creating a beautiful pantry – the layout in how you place those items can also make a difference.

The goal is to create balance. Try keeping larger/heavier items towards the bottom. For example, cooking oils were my tallest objects so I placed those on the bottom shelf.

Place similar looking items diagonally from each other to keep the eye moving, rather than remaining in one spot.

Notice how like-items are placed diagnally from each other

Lastly, in order to keep a cohesive look pick storage items that compliment each other.

As you can see I chose all glass containers. Most of them have bamboo lids but I did throw in some acacia lids to have a variation in wood tones. Adding baskets gave texture to the space, selecting different jars added a variation of shapes and sizes, and the labels helped maintain a cohesive look.

Which of these items and tips do you plan on implementing into your pantry?

If you would like to see the entire process of transforming our pantry I have a saved highlight titled “Pantry Makeover” on my Instagram page.
